North Carolina law prohibits any person, including a concealed handgun permittee, from carrying a firearm, openly or concealed, on educational property or at a curricular or extracurricular activity sponsored by a school.

NOTE:
On July 29, 2013, the Governor signed into law (Ch. SL 2013-369), which included several provisions, among them, to provide that an employee of an institution of higher education who lives in a certain type of campus residence may carry a handgun on the employee’s residential premises and in some instances also keep the gun in the employee’s locked vehicle in the parking area of the institution of higher education.
