Laws Concerning Carrying Concealed Firearms On Campus in
Colorado
The
Colorado Court of Appeals has ruled twice that under the Colorado Concealed
Carry Act (2003), the Colorado Board of Regents does not have the authority to
ban concealed carry license holders from carrying their firearms on public
campuses. (Colorado State in 2010 and the University of Colorado in 2012).
Despite this ruling, many colleges and universities have banned firearms
from dorms, dining halls, and event centers.

It should be noted, for example, that the University of Colorado has the authority to
in those situations where the University grants access to buildings or
facilities pursuant to a contractual relationship, such as a landlord-tenant
relationship for access to student housing facilities or a licensor-licensee
relationship for access to events that are not generally open to the public, the
chancellor of each campus shall have the authority to enter contracts with students,
employees, and guests of the University of Colorado governing the terms of that
relationship, including contractually limiting the ability of persons to exercise
the ability to possess a concealed firearm in those buildings or
facilities.
